Something that comes across as shocking is seeing these things happen in built up residential areas. You often see polis scrapping protesters in city centres but you rarely see them showing as much force in random normal neighbourhoods. Especially since they’re heavily armed and may as well be classed as an army.

Seen a video the other day and they’ve got the big immigration van out with its blue lights flashing, lighting up an entire street at night while about 50 cunts in army gear are shining torches all over peoples houses and in their windows. Folk sitting in minding their own business watching eastenders and they’ve got the gestapo lighting up their home.

I still don't think it'll actually come to that, but nothing's off the table with this lunatic and his enablers.

There's the question of what an invasion of a largely unpopulated, massive island even looks like. They could occupy Nuuk, where about a third of the population lives, tomorrow without much difficulty, but then you've got hundreds of isolated wee villages. Does the US have to "capture" all of them to control Greenland? A long term occupation of Greenland would be deeply unpopular and expensive from the outset; if even a few service members are killed, it might be untenable.

The US Navy is bigger than the rest of NATO's combined, so even if Europe wanted to, there's not much they'd do militarily to stop it. Even a token effort to resist is unlikely, but Europe could massively reduce the US's ability to project its power if they have the guts to act collectively. Big if. There are 40 US military bases in Europe; closing or even threatening to close all of them would carry a lot of weight. There are also some British overseas territories that the US military relies on, like the Space Force's base on Ascension Island. Again, won't happen, but running to Israel's aid gets a bit trickier if American access to the Mediterranean is severed.

The diplomatic and economic consequences of annexing Greenland would greatly outweigh whatever the US would gain from it, but it's not like that's ever stopped them in the past.

I was watching a clip of Vance talking about how the ice agent had immunity as he was doing his job. Ipso facto that means it's his job, a job that derives its power from the state, to kill citizens who challenge the state. Therefore he was carrying out a state sanctioned killing - and that's an execution. That's the word fir those circumstances.

It irked me when, iirc, j-dawg pushed back on it being called an execution. I think the meaning was drawn from the callous and clearly petty nature of the act. It being 'justified' was why our boy didn't see it as an execution. It took a little rumination, but the fact it is a state sanctioned killing - murder is a private act, and one the state punishes - means execution is the exact word for it. No gallows or injection or ol' sparky, but an execution nonetheless.
