The mainstream media know exactly what they're doing when it comes to Trump.
When you have the profit motive attached to the news, the main focus will be on whatever keeps the ratings up. They enable Trump because it pads their bottom line.
Same with the "opposition" party in the US, they won't openly admit it but Trump is the perfect president for them. They can raise money and campaign on simply not being Trump. Actually addressing the issues which contributed to his rise (which they are fully complicit in) doesn't matter when the bad orange man is in the White House.
