Of course some folk might be happy enough working away in a biscuit factory, but I don't think they'll be in the majority.

Folk don't choose to take minimum wage, shan, boring jobs. They do it because they have to survive. There's no reason these folk can't look for other jobs but jobs don't just present themselves as soon as you want one.

My ma is a skilled tradeswoman in a dying trade. Unfortunately at some point her employer was liquidated so she started applying for fucking anything from cleaning jobs in factories and that to working in shops. Took her a fucking whole year to finally get a job, and it was working night shift in Tescos ffs. Obviously she didn't want to take any of those jobs, but she had to.

Luckily she's back doing her trade because she got really depressed and shit working there

It's not a popular opinion however in many cases the only thing holding people back is themselves - yes if you start off at 16 in a biscuit factory you're unlikely to ever earn £40k but you can work hard and try and get steps up to manager/supervisor and so on. It will take time and hard work but people need to decide whether they want to do that or earn minimum wage for life.

Same thing happens with my work, they subsidise a yearly panto and you'd be luck if the charity gets half of the cost for putting it on before you even factor lost productivity for folk getting time off for rehearsals etc

When people call Mags a snob, what do they think he is? A Lord, living in some castle somewhere? Tim Nice But Dim? Or just someone who had a good education thanks to his parents?

Tory-baiting's a bit of a sport amongst the rest of us, yet he does well. He doesn't rise to it, which reflects well on him in my view. And sure, he makes the odd daft comment every now and then... but don't we all?
